Space September 2011: Tower of the Princesses
The Tower of the Princesses (Torre de las infantas) is a clear example of the contrast between the plain decoration found outside and the rich architecture and decoration of the inside. From the simple exterior volume of this tower with a plain wall with two window spaces, however the inside of the tower shows a complex volume to the distribution of the spaces and the rich decoration of the tiles, plasterwork and vaults. Name: Tower of the Princesses of Qalahurra, built in the times of Muhammad VII. Its name is linked to the tale of the three Princesses: Zaida, Zoraida and Zorahaida as written by Washington Irving in his book “Tales of the Alhambra”.
Sultanate and chronology: it is one of the last constructions built around 1393-1394, under the sultanate of Muhammad VII.
