Space May 2013: Paparated Walk of the Alcazaba
The Alhambra is built on top of the hill of the Sabika. This location gives the monument a dual control: physical and symbolic, achieving a complete control over the territory and the defence of the area simultaneously. Its position makes of the Alhambra an independent and impregnable ensemble, especially from the strategic point of view. This feature starts already with the Alcazaba, which is the oldest part of the Monumental Complex.
Apart from having a military function, the Parapet Walk was also delimitating the urban structure of the citadel, once it went through the Puerta de las Armas (Gate of the Arms) it reached the interior of the Alhambra complex.
Denomination: Camino de Ronda (Parapet Walk) of the Alcazaba.
Time: Although there exist references since the 9th century of Al Qal´a al-Hamra (The Red Castle), the present Alcazaba survived until today is a construction under Muhammad I, the founder of the Nasrid Dynasty in the 13th century.
Outstanding elements: Outstanding element of the Camino de Ronda is the Puerta de las Armas (Gate of Arms), dated from the late 13th century.
Opening time: From 8:30 to 20 hours. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
Entrance: with the general admission ticket for the Monumental Complex of the Alhambra.
Capacity: maximum 30 persons simultaneously.
